MISSIONS

LARRY AND KATHY DUNNE

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

The mission field is the Republic of Ireland.  Although there is freedom of religion, most of the people are Catholic, and look on Protestants as a false cult.  So the first goal is to break down prejudice through getting involved in community life, making friends, and finding hungry hearts.  Bible studies follow, and finally lead to the establishment of local, Irish-led churches.  Larry is a native of Ireland.  Kathy is from Orange and her parents are Mike and Beverly Oakland.

REI AND RAMONA ABRUDAN

ROMANIA

Both Rei and Ramona accepted Christ as teenagers in Romania attending Christian youth camps. Now they work with hundreds of children and youth, as well as training leaders and workers and preparing curriculum for them to use. Each summer Rei orchestrates multiple summer camps, each with its own emphasis. Ramona does counseling among hurting teens, and teaches religion in the public and private schools. A Christian based sex education program has been eagerly accepted in the public high schools.  We will see Rei and his colleague, Cosmin, early in 2014 on a visit to our church.

"CHRIS" AND "KATHY"

INDIA

Chris, a native of India, has dedicated his life to training Indian nationals for Christian evangelism.  In June 1994, he and his wife Kathy opened Bright Beam Ministries near the southern tip of India.  The state of Orissa, northeast on the Bay of Bengal, is the focus of evangelism.  Bright Beam Ministries sends graduates there to preach in the villages and to begin house churches.  Chris and Kathy lead two separate training programs for young men and young women preparing to serve full time.  They are currently hoping to expand the ministry reaching the women that has faced some opposition.

PAKISTAN

NAMES WITHELD FOR SECURITY PURPOSES

This husband and wife team are both Pakistani nationals, working as missionaries to their own people.  They are very much endangered in the work they are doing.  The couple provides courageous Christian witness in a private setting, conducting Bible meetings in their home, and sharing Christian literature.  Muslim persecution in this country is intense and unpredictable.  Outwardly, the government boasts about freedom of religion, while at the same time forbidding, as a capital offense, any sharing of faith other than Islam.  Radical Muslims regularly terrorize Christians, and new converts suffer enormously.  In spite of all this, new believers are coming to Christ all the time, through the efforts of this fine couple.

EAST ASIA

NAMES WITHELD FOR SECURITY PURPOSES

This family resides in Hong Kong. Monthly trips are made into China to conduct training sessions for the pastors and evangelists of the much-persecuted “house-churches.” Bible study materials are provided in Mandarin for national Christian leaders. In spite of great difficulties, the underground church in China continues to grow by thousands every day. Most “house-church” leaders have never had an opportunity to attend Seminary or receive formal Biblical training. This missionary, along with national co-workers, brings this valuable training to thousands of underground pastors in China.  We recently heard him speak to us at CCOT, sharing about God’s work in raising up additional workers for their ministry.

WEST AFRICA

CALVARY CHAPEL OLD TOWNE

Dida is laboring to bring the good news to the nomadic people of West Africa. He is using every avenue the Lord provides.

SUSAN GROSSER AND SARITA BAUTISTA

COSTA RICA

Susan is a registered nurse from New Jersey serving as a missionary in Costa Rica for over thirty years.  Sarita is a trained teacher from Colombia and has been teamed with Susan for all those years.  Susan has a medical outreach, and Sarita holds classes for large numbers of children who otherwise would have no schooling at all.  They both lead Bible studies all over the communities of Pavas and Carpio.  They are like guardian angels, and are known by everyone in the area.  A growing community center has been established in Pavas, and a medical clinic building has been opened in Carpio, as well as a new activity centered program for youth called New Horizons.

HORACIO AND ESTHER LOPEZ

COSTA RICA

Horacio has been working in Costa Rica for several years.  He is actually from Argentina, and has a resume that includes being a street evangelist, itinerant pastor, prison chaplain, assistant pastor of an established church, and eventually a co-founder of a Baptist church in Buenos Aires.  He took a huge leap of faith by leaving a comfortable life in Argentina and traveling to Costa Rica with no assurance of work and no money.  He began working with Susan and Sarita, our long time missionaries in Costa Rica.  Soon, he became a missionary with Christ for the City, and is now working as assistant director of the Costa Rica sector of the organization.  He has a heart for the poor and never wavers from preaching the Bible.

SELVIN AND LAURIE MAAZ-LUTHER

GUATAMALA

This family lives in a large city in Guatemala, a country of 13 million people just south of Mexico.  They regularly host servant teams associated with Mission Impact ministries to participate in local outreach and service.  Selvin, who was born and raised in Guatemala, also teaches Bible and Christian Character education classes and helps to produce print materials used in Mission Impact ministry.  Guatemala is plagued by violent crime, alcoholism, illiteracy, and lack of access to quality education and medical care.  Laurie and the three children support in ministry at the local church, during camps, and assist with hosting visiting groups of partnership ministries.

NORMAN AND DOROTHY CASH

ROSEBUD SIOUX RESERVATION

This couple has humbly lived and served on the Indian Reservation for years.  Norman pastors the church on the reservation, seeking to reach individuals surrounded by a tradition of alcoholism, witchcraft, and poverty.  They have hosted partner churches, including CCC, for outreach and building projects.  The Nazarene Mission purchased land surrounding a nearby Christian camp to continue using the facilities to reach youth of the area for Jesus Christ.  Partnership with the ministry “Wings of Faith” and others have recently provided supplies to the needy on the reservation.

RELEASED TIME CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Released Time Christian Education has provided quality Bible Study for 4th and 5th graders for 60 years in the city of Orange. Over 1,000 students are enrolled each year and for many this is their only Bible study. Classes are 40 minutes long, held once a week in mobile classrooms called “Chapels-On-Wheels”. Twenty-two schools are reached in this program. Each year a brand new Bible is given to every child who participates.  The group has recently expanded to several new schools including La Veta Elementary.

THE GOD'S STORY PROJECT

This project's desire is to translate God's Word into every language because a message in a person's first language is always best understood. (Click here to see a list of languages available)  From the beginning, the Lord destined God's story to be translated into multiple languages.  Through translations of the Bible video "God's story: From Creation to Eternity," millions can now hear the gospel in an effective chronological storytelling format.  God's Word going across the world on one video.   A preview of the video in English is available on YouTube.
